Who We Are:
The Family Medicine Graduate Student Society (FMGSS) is your graduate student governing body, of which all students enrolled in the Family Medicine MSc or PhD and allied departments are voting members. We currently have 12 executive council members for the 2018-2019 academic year, all of whom were elected by our students. The current FMGSS president is Matt Hacker Teper, an MSc student in the Department of Family Medicine. We strongly encourage all members of the FMGSS, particularly those from outside of the Family Medicine program, to participate in our social and/or academic events as well as to provide us with feedback on how our council can better serve you.
Although our name implies sole representation of Family Medicine, we are also the official student representative body for several departments in medicine who do not have their own student council: Anesthesia, Diagnostic Radiology, Cardiology, Clinical Research, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology & Metabolism, Gastroenterology, Hematology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Oncology, Palliative Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Anatomical Pathology, Pathology, Infectious Diseases – Pediatrics, Pediatrics and Social Studies of Medicine.
The FMGSS is devoted to serving and representing the best interests of our students. Anish Arora (M.Sc.) and Reem El Sherif (Ph.D.) are the representatives to the Family Medicine Graduate Programs Committee. Laura Rojas and Hao Zhang are the McGill Post-Graduate Student Society (PGSS) representatives.
Our purpose is to protect the rights of our members, provide social and academic support through a variety of workshops, activities, and events we organize throughout the academic year, as well as to be the liaison between our members and community partners.
